Nobis Hotel Stockholm Press Kit

The 201 room hotel is located in two historic interconnected 19th century buildings and occupies a prime spot at Norrmalmstorg square in downtown Stockholm.

Outstanding personal service and unique experiences in gastronomy, accommodation and atmosphere are the key characteristics of this hotel. “Our hotel is extremely comfortable but without unnecessary excesses. It is elegant and timeless, contemporary classic, never trendy. The quality of everything we offer to our guests is superior, frequently something out of the ordinary. The same goes for our service, which is meticulous and highly professional,” says Alessandro Catenacci, owner of Nobis.

In creating Nobis Hotel, Alessandro Catenacci and the design firm Claesson Koivisto Rune have drawn on their personal experiences as global travelers and thought through every detail of the hotel and its services from a guest’s perspective. Nothing at Nobis Hotel is routine; there is always something extra.

Nobis Hotel is certified with the Nordic Swan Ecolabel, the official eco-certification of the Nordic countries. To receive this label, a hotel must meet numerous requirements – such as reducing the hotel’s energy consumption and using renewable energy sources. Nobis Hotel takes its environmental responsibility seriously throughout the hotel: They mainly use local products with carefully selected natural materials, and consistently choose the most environmentally sound solutions.

Architecture & Design

Historic architecture melds with contemporary Scandinavian design

Nobis Hotel is housed in two connected stone buildings from the late 19th century. They are representative of the unique and magnificent “stone city” (referring to the massive stone buildings that line its city blocks) that began to emerge in the Norrmalm and Östermalm districts in the second half of the 19th century, at the outset of Sweden’s industrial revolution. The interiors are created by the world-renowned architecture and interior design trio Claesson Koivisto Rune.

“As we created this hotel in two historic buildings, we had the chance to shape a specific kind of atmosphere from the outset, which was one of our main ambitions with the design. The real challenge was achieving this effect while at the same time being modern, edgy, sharp and contemporary, without the standard features of most traditional luxury hotels – the gold, the velvet, the thick red carpets and all that. We’ve worked both with and against the buildings in achieving the effects that we want here,” says Eero Koivisto.

Claesson Koivisto Rune took their inspiration from Stockholm’s winter colors. Toned-down and discreet tones characterize the rooms and the public spaces and bring about an inviting and relaxing atmosphere. Interiors for the rooms and the rest of the hotel were carefully composed with pieces from different designers and manufacturers to evoke the feeling of being in a private home.

“From the beginning, we’ve been inspired by the appearance of Stockholm, not in the summer when the light is bright and magical, but in the wintertime, when the light is softer with less contrast. The general impression should be calm and relaxing, devoid of strong, dominant contrasts and any gimmicks. Instead, there are plenty of clever and beautiful details and surprises to discover over time,” says Ola Rune.

Rooms and Suits

The hotel has a total of 201 rooms situated on six floors. Small Single rooms have an average size of 15sqm, Standard Queen and Standard King are sized 17-22sqm, Superior rooms with an average size of 23-26sqm, Deluxe rooms with an average size of 25-33sqm, One room suites with an average size of 32-35sqm, three stylish Corner Suites with an average size of 47sqm and our Panorama Suite has a size of 53sqm. All rooms have either courtyard, city or sea view. The highlight is the grand Nobis Suite with 98 square meters; the suite has the possibility of two connecting rooms with full size of 134 sqm.

The rooms and suites are primarily designed with natural materials that become more beautiful as they age, such as wool, wood, stone, leather and glass. High ceilings in all rooms create a sense of space and air. Subdued colors such as light grey, brown, beige and white bring about a relaxed and sophisticated atmosphere. “The rooms are luxurious, but in an honest, no-nonsense way, devoid of standard luxury gimmicks or gold and velvet. There is no cheating, no tricks. The sense of luxury comes from optimal comfort and function, and a cool, sophisticated ambience, without excesses,” says architect and designer Ola Rune. The bathrooms are outfitted with white Carrara marble throughout. Nobis Hotel has chosen toiletries from the Swedish fragrance house Byredo.

The suites have a different look and feel than the rooms with a mixture of old and new. Historic details are mixed with contemporary furniture, which serves as a contrast to the traditional settings. “The challenge has been to create suites that will work for both professional and romantic purposes – for business meetings and lovers’ weekends alike. I think we’ve succeeded in this. The master suite in particular will be something quite special – a true modern boudoir,” says Ola Rune.

Light plays an important role in Sweden and is an integral part of the rooms’ and the suites’ atmosphere. Each room has elaborate lighting with up to five light sources so that guests can change the light according to their mood. The suites even have up to ten different lights. All lamps have a different character and are made by famous designers such as David Chipperfield and Ilse Crawford. All rooms and suites come with their own TV with a multitude of channels (HD), which also work as an entertainment station, a computer screen, an iPod dock and have many other functions. Safes are equipped with electric sockets where guests can recharge their computer while storing it.

Restaurants and bars

Restaurant NOI

NOI presents an inspiring menu that draws on gastronomic influences from all over Europe. With a strong emphasis on seasonality, freshness and high-quality ingredients, the kitchen delivers contemporary dishes rooted in timeless flavors — showcasing the restaurant’s signature approach to modern European dining.

Further enriching the experience, NOI places a distinct focus on wine, offering a carefully curated list supported by an expanded wine cellar featuring unique and rare bottles. This dedication to thoughtful pairings and exceptional producers elevates each visit.

Set amongst an oasis of Scandinavian design, the restaurant marries individuality with a uniquely Swedish brand of luxury. Aesthetically, this manifests itself as a low-lit subterranean space lined with circular booths upholstered in olive green leather, mosaic parquet and walnut-paneled walls. Designed by the pre-eminent Swedish architect firm Wingårdhs, every facet of NOI is shaped by natural materials, including leather from Tärnsjö and striking black marble carved into the restaurant’s standout bar.

Restaurant Bino

Bino is a lively and inviting spot where the energy of Southern Europe meets the elegance of Stockholm. At its heart stands a classic zinc bar, setting the tone for an informal yet refined atmosphere. With an open kitchen, guests are able to smell, taste and observe the craft behind each dish, evoking the vibrant spirit of Italian and Spanish neighborhood bars.

During the spring and summer months, Bino extends out onto the square.

The Gold Bar

The Gold Bar is the perfect place either to start off the evening with little snacks or to enjoy a digestive. Walls covered in golden mirrors and a multitude of reflecting lights create a kaleidoscopic atmosphere in the Gold Bar.

The Lounge

The Lounge and so-called “Stockholm’s living room” is next to the Gold Bar and comprises four separate living rooms, each furnished differently. With its 28-meter ceiling and a multicolor surface, the lounge evokes the feeling of being in a cathedral with modern ceiling fresco painting.

The 800 square meters of public facilities, including restaurant NOI, Bino, The Gold Bar and the Lounge, form an exciting and inviting stage for visitors and locals alike.

Revitalization and relaxation at the fitness center

The fitness center at Nobis Hotel is located on the first floor. It has a white marble sauna area where guests can relax in one dry and one steam sauna. The fully equipped gym has daylight and views of the atrium. The look of the gym is different from the rest of the hotel so that guests have the impression of entering into a secluded, soothing refuge. Walls are held in light colors with turquoise curtains overlooking one of the two courtyards of the hotel. Treatment for facials and massages are available for guests staying in the hotel and initially held in the guest rooms.

Gateaway to the city -central location in the Swedish capital

Nobis Hotel is located on Norrmalmstorg square, the most attractive square in downtown Stockholm in the center of the city’s business, shopping and entertainment district. Norrmalmstorg square itself is the center of the fashion district with designer boutiques and department stores within walking distance. The flagship stores of the Swedish brands Acne and Marimekko are located right in the hotel building. Stockholm’s major attractions such as the Royal Castle and the National Museum are just a short walk away.

Guests staying at Nobis Hotel are the first ones to know what’s going on in Stockholm. All employees have a profound knowledge of current events and activities in the city and connect guests with the best restaurants, nightclubs, art galleries and museums.

Those longing for some fresh air and pristine nature are definitely in the right city. One third of Stockholm consists of water and another third of greenery. It’s the perfect place for both relaxation and adventure.

About Nobis Hospitality Group

Alessandro Catenacci is the driving force behind many of Stockholm’s top restaurants, nightclubs and hotels. His Italian name may reveal his Roman origins, but a distinctly Scandinavian sense of luxury is obvious in everything Catenacci does. Most of all he hopes to offer guests places where they can feel as comfortable and humbly selfassured as he is. “I sometimes look at myself in the mirror and think, ‘Am I really good at anything, or was it just luck’?”

Back in 1987, Catenacci bought the Stockholm-based restaurant empire belonging to Scandinavian culinary great Tore Wretman - including Café Opera, Operakällaren, the Riche, and Stallmästaregården. This savvy purchase became the launching point for what now includes seven top-tier hotels in addition to the restaurants and nightspots. Catenacci’s ease makes his success look as if luck were indeed a factor, but it is actually the result of a long-term vision, hard work, and an intuitive business sense.

His company, the Nobis Group, has grown consistently over the more than two decades that have passed since that smart deal was made. The conglomerate’s philosophy, in many ways, combines the best of Catenacci’s Italian heritage - a heady approach to fine food and a keen eye for quality - and the utmost in Scandinavian understatement.
